Java Smart Cards as a Platform for Electronic Commerce

This paper gives a brief introduction into Java for smart card; it outlines the basic concepts, the architecture of Java cards and the surrounding system, and briefly sketches security issues. It is argued that Java smart cards form a novel platform for applications in the customer’s wallet, that is well suited for applications in the context of Electronic Commerce.
